BEER
This weekend's beer tasting is dedicated to the memory of Joe Strummer who would have been 58 this Saturday.
Old Rosie Scrumpy Cider
H. Weston & Sons (Herefordshire, England)
Award winning Old Rosie Scrumpy is allowed to settle out naturally after fermentation resulting in a truly old fashioned, full flavoured, appley, cloudy scrumpy with a well balanced medium dry character. Lightly carbonated. 7.3% Alc./Vol.
Regular: $5.99 500ml Special: $5.39 500ml.
Bluebird Bitter
Coniston Brewing Co. (Coniston, Cumbria, England)
In England, an "ordinary" bitter is a beer for everyday drinking - the kind of beer you can turn to again and again through a long evening of socializing at the pub. Bluebird Bitter is an extraordinary "ordinary." Freshness, mild carbonation, a wonderfully soft texture, and a perfect balance of rich, grassy malt and assertive Challenger hops make it a superbly drinkable session beer. The bottled-conditioned Bluebird is altogether different from other bottled English beers - it somehow tastes and feels like beer from the cask. 4.2% Alc./Vol.
Regular: $5.99 500ml Special: $5.39 500ml.
Bombardier Extra Special Bitter
Wells & Youngs (Bedford, England)
Wells Bombardier has enjoyed a spectacular rise from well loved regional beer to a top English cask beer brand. "A burnished copper colour, it has a rich, tempting aroma of peppery hops and raisins, while the palate is dominated by more dark fruit, juicy malt and tangy hops." 5.2% Alc./Vol.
Regular: $5.99 500ml Special: $5.39 500ml.
Double Stout
Hook Norton Brewery (Oxfordshire, England)
A blend of malts gives Double Stout a character all its own. Black malt enriches the colour and teases the palate with an unmistakable 'toast' flavour. Brown malt gives it the dryness. 4.8% Alc./Vol.
Regular: $5.99 500ml Special: $5.39 500ml.
