Vinho Verde, Broadbent
Vinho Verde, Portugal
"Light in body and alcohol (9%), with a hint of sugar, it manages to be both sunny and flavorful, fruity and crisp, reminding me a bit of a German Kabinett. It has a nice finish and lovely aromatics, too." 87pts Wine Advocate
2009 Gruner Veltliner, Hugl Weine
Niederosterreich, Austria
An intense and concentrated wine offering pleasant citrus and grapefruit aromas, and exotic tropical fruits with a hint of freshly ground white pepper.
2009 Bergerac Sec, Chateau Le Raz
Bergerac, France
A 50/50 blend of Sauvignon and Semillon, the emphasis is on gorgeous levels of citrusy, melony fruit presented in an undeniably fresh, medium-bodied style.
2009 Petite Sirah, Lot 205 Winery
Lodi, California
Very generously styled, the wine's deep garnet color is matched by rich and inviting aromas of cranberry, cherry pie, and fresh stone fruits, along with touches of toasty oak, spice cake and leather.
2009 Tempranillo, Montebuena
Rioja, Spain
Dark ruby-colored, it offers an appealing perfume of spice box, leather, tobacco, and blackberry. On the palate it is packed with ripe fruit, has outstanding concentration, and impeccable balance.
90pts Wine Advocate
2008 Malbec "Clasico," Viejo Isaias
Mendoza, Argentina
Intense red color with blue and purple glints. Complex aromas of plum, ripe fruit and dry fig. Silky in the mouth, with a long finish and good aftertaste. Fine, sweet and ripe tannins.
BEER
There's no theme this week, no tenuous tie binding these brews together, but only our fervent love for American craft beer. So come on in and have a taste with us!
Unearthly IIPA
Southern Tier (Lakewood, New York)
"Unearthly is a manifestation of the brewer's craft; skillfully balancing art and the forces of nature to produce a divine liquid. Delicately pour a taste into a fluted glass. Smell the enchanting aromas of the hops waft forward as your first sip divulges this beer's fervent soul. To underestimate Unearthly is to trifle with the mysteries of the universe, so please consume wisely."
Regular $7.49 22oz. Special $6.74 22oz.
15th Anniversary Smoked Imperial Stout
Weyerbacher (Easton, Pennsylvania)
This is not a timid ale; it's an intense, full-bodied smoke experience. Fifteen has a rich flavor profile balancing notes of dark roast, burnt toast, and spicy rye with a deep earthy aroma of smoke and wood. This beer should age nicely and be a smoky treasure for many years.
Regular $16.99 4pk. Special $15.29 4pk.
Big Bohemian Pilsener
Harpoon Brewery (Boston, Massachusets)
This installment of the Harpoon Leviathan Series was brewed in the centuries-old tradition of Czech and Bohemian brewers. Harpoon Big Bohemian is a large lager with a clean maltiness and a huge aromatic hop character. Continental Pilsner, pale two-row, and Carafoam malt was used to brew this big, strong beer, true to the Leviathan Series. Pilsner malt is the classic ingredient of this classic style and the Carafoam malt produces a nice, frothy head. This malt mixture combined with Czech Saaz hops, the quintessential hop of the style, yields an assertive but not overly aggressive beer. The finish is dry with a lingering floral hop character.
Regular $12.49 4pk. Special $11.24 4pk.
