The Wines of Hand Picked Selections with Dennis Edelstein
2007 Apremont, Pierre Boniface
(Jura, France)
Bottle: $15.99 Special: $14.39 Case: $13.59
Pierre Boniface's 2007 Apremont is a model of how much flavor can be packed into an ethereal, light, fresh, tank-fermented and aged wine. As crisp as an Alpine stream, it possesses extraordinary freshness as well as a delicacy that must be tasted to be believed. It is dry, perfumed, and refreshing. You couldn't ask for a better wine to gulp down over the hot summer and warm fall months. Guess what our summer sipping, crisp, dry white is going to be? 88pts Wine Advocate
2008 Commanderie de la Bargemone
(Provence, France)
Bottle: $14.99 Special: $13.49 Case: $12.74
“One of the Coteaux d’Aix en Provence’s finest estates, Bargemone has long produced one of France’s most delicious roses. The 2008 Coteaux d’Aix en Provence exhibit light pink colors, great minerality, delicate strawberry and framboise-scented noses, dry, crisp palates, and loads of freshness.” 89pts Wine Advocate
2007 Cotes du Rhone, Terre de Mistral, Cave Estezargues
(Rhone Valley, France)
Bottle: $12.99 Special: $11.69 Case: $11.04
From an even riper vintage, the 2007 Terre du Mistral possesses more sweetness as well as loads of pepper, lavender, garrigue, kirsch, and licorice. A terrific Cotes du Rhone that sells for a song, it can be enjoyed over the next several years. 88pts Wine Advocate
2005 Pic Saint-Loup, La Coste d’Aleyrac, Chateau de Lancyre (Languedoc, France)
Bottle: $19.99 Special: $17.99 Case: $16.99
The 2005 Coteaux du Languedoc La Coste d’Aleyrac (from Syrah with 35% Grenache) smells of purple plum and black cherry, pungent, resinous herbs, grenadine, wood smoke and iodine. Dense, deep and sappy on the palate with both the ripeness of fruit and pungency of herbs intensified; this adds a low-toned wet stone and chalk mineral expression in its long finish. I would expect it to gain yet more interest over the next several years, and as such it represents an outstanding value. 90pts Wine Advocate
2006 Panarroz
(Jumilla, Spain)
Bottle: $11.99 Special: $10.79 Case: $10.19
A blend of 42% Mourvedre, 38% Grenache, and 20% Syrah blend. An amazing bargain, it boasts an inky/ruby/purple color as well as a big, sweet nose of chocolate, blackberries, and cherries, in an opulent, medium-bodied package with a savory texture, and a pure, long finish. One hundred percent tank-fermented and aged, it is a gorgeous Spanish red to drink over the next 1-2 years.
