14th-15th of May, 2010
Please join us for our FREE Wine and Beer
Tastings - Friday from 3-7 pm and Saturday 1-6; this week we are
tasting:
WINE
This is such a great time of year for lovers of food and wine. The
weather is warm without being too hot for eating al fresco; there's lots of
new vintages coming in, and in about another month the first fresh
vegetables will be hitting the farmer's markets. From grilled veggies, to
bar-b-que, to just kicking back on the deck, we want to introduce you to
wines that will go with all your favorite summer fare.
2008 Apremont, Pierre Boniface
Apremont, Savoie, France
As crisp as an Alpine stream, it possesses extraordinary freshness as
well as a delicacy that must be tasted to be believed. Dry, perfumed, and
refreshing, you couldn't ask for a better wine to gulp down over the warm
spring and hot summer months.
89pts Wine Advocate
Bottle: $15.99 Special: $14.39 Case: $13.59
2006 Shiraz "Usual Suspects," Hesketh Wine Co.
McLaren Vale, South Australia, Australia
Vibrant fruit, complexity, elegance, balance and style, this is a
"thinking person's" shiraz. Supple red and dark berry flavors
with gobs of candied raspberry and floral scents are complemented by white
pepper and dark chocolate nuances.
Bottle: $21.99 Special: $19.79 Case: $18.69
2008 Malbec "Urban Uco", Bodegas O. Fournier
Mendoza, Argentina
A glass-coating opaque purple, it has a nose offering up spice box,
incense, and black cherry. Ripe and sweetly-fruited, it has intense
flavors, excellent depth, and a lengthy finish.
89pts Wine Advocate

2007 Nero Misto Red, Elyse Winery
Napa, North Coast, California, USA

tremendous depth of fruit, ripe, medium to full-bodied, rich flavors, a
chewy texture, and a long finish.

Bottle: $24.99 Special: $22.49 Case: $21.24
BEER
Not only are the wines unique this week, the beers cover a wide variety
of styles and regions - something for every palate. They're to be enjoyed
with food or without, with friends and by yourself, but certainly with
gusto!
Kasteel Rouge
Brouwerij Van Honsebrouck (Inglemunster, Belgium)
Its unique dark red colour is obtained by mixing Kasteel brown that has
been left to mature for at least 6 months with sour cherries. This beer has
wondeerful gastronomic qualities and can be drunk as an aperitif, with a
BBQ, to accompany a dessert or simply as an outstanding real ale.
$8.99 750ml.
Baltic Thunder
Victory Brewing (Downington, Pennsylvania)
Truly a worldly beer. Baltic Thunder represents the Baltic Porter style
admirably. Exhibiting the enticing, toffee roast of the British porter that
originated the style in the 18th century, and the soothing, subtle fruit
nuance of contemporary brews that flourish from Helsinki to Vilnius today,
this dark lager honors the Baltic god of thunder. Created by an inspired
collaboration of brewers and tempered with a touch of turmoil, Baltic
Thunder rolls on to bring you enchanting light as the darkness fades.
$6.99 22oz.
Devil Dog
Laughing Dog Brewing (Ponderay, Idaho)
The Devil Dog will chew you up and leave you whimpering for more. At 98
IBU's and 5.2 pounds of hops to the barrel it is an all out assault on the
senses. Triple dry hopped and at 10% ABV, more than one of these bad boys
will cause you to howl at passing strangers and chew up your toys, or
anything else you can get your sharp little teeth on.
$8.99 22oz.
