Weekly Wine Tastings

Please join us at the i.m.Wine tasting bar every Friday and Saturday from 1-7pm; this week we are tasting:

8th & 9th May, 2009
The Wines of Wine Cellars with Emily Fox

2007 Riesling “Shine”, Rudolf Muller (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany)
Quite concentrated and ripe in aromatics for an entry-level wine. Leading with pungent citrus zest aromas and offering a palate dominated by lemon, apricot and peach, this finishes with distinctly bitter suggestions of citrus rind and peach kernel, yet its exuberantly juicy primary fruit and refreshing citrus flavours keep it far from austerity. It will be lovely – and probably display some additional facets – over the next 2-3 years.

2007 Chardonnay, Snt. Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara Winery (Central Coast, CA)
Ripe and full-bodied, with densely extracted flavors, fine purity, and well-integrated acidity.  Full bodied, the wine reveals a substantial mineral, honey, vanillia, and spice-scented nose, as well as excellent, creamy-textured, full-bodied flavors. The wine's hazelnut quality is reminiscent of a top-notch Meursault.

2008 Pinot Noir, Agustinos (Aconcagua, Chile)
Medium ruby-colored with toasty oak notes, an expressive nose of cherry and raspberry, and an attractive earthiness. There is plenty of sweet fruit on the mid-palate, good balance, and a lengthy, pure finish. It is an excellent value in Pinot Noir.

2006 Barco Negro, J.F. Lurton (Duoro, Portugal)
A blend of Touriga Nacional (40%), Tinta Roriz (30%) and Touriga Franca (30%) that shows off the elegance of the region.  The wine is soft and simple, but very elegant with some brightness on the back end. Very exuberant, fruity and bursting with flavor, yet bright, with good acidity and superb structure.

2006 Syrah, Snt. Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara Winery (Central Coast, CA)
A good, fruit-driven effort, Santa Barbara Winery’s dark ruby/purple-tinged 2006 Syrah offers up scents of earth, herb, cedar, and black currants. Drink this tasty, reasonably well-endowed cuvee over the next 4-5 years.
