Please join us for our FREE Wine and Beer Tastings  - Friday from 3-7 pm and Saturday 1-6; this week we are tasting:

WINE

With this week being the dreaded deadline for filing your taxes, we figure you need some great value wines to dull the pain of having to write that check to the IRS. So we found some wines that over-deliver for their price. They pair perfectly with food and are just right to enjoy on their own.

2008 Tabali Sauvignon Blanc Reserva
Limari Valley, Coquimbo, Chile
"Exhibits a fragrant bouquet of mineral, passion fruit, and citrus. This leads to a mouth-watering, vibrant, lengthy Sauvignon that way over-delivers for its humble price."
90pts Wine Advocate
Bottle: $14.99 Special: $13.49 Case: $12.74

2009 Syrah Rosé, Charles & Charles Vol. 2
Mattawa, WA
Checking in at a surprising 13% alcohol the wine sports a beautiful deep pink colour with ripe aromas of strawberry, vanilla, spice, and rose petals. Those same flavours carry over to the palate with lots of well defined fruit and bright, lip-smacking acidity.
Bottle: $11.99 Special: $10.79 Case: $10.19

2008 Pinot Noir "Treasure Hunter," Andrew Peacock
Carneros, Sonoma Valley, CA
Pleasantly ripe and generously cut it offers up flavours of ripe cherry, cinnamon, dried herbs, and roasted meat characteristics with a complex and attractive finish.
Bottle: $24.99 Special: $22.49 Case: $21.24

2008 Zinfandel Old Vines "Rubus"
Lodi, CA
A big, burly, earthy Zinfandel with abundant spice, fruit, and glycerin as well as a locomotive-like feel going across the palate. This well-balanced effort is worth the time of anyone who likes their Zinfandels muscular and super-charged.
Bottle: $13.99 Special: $12.59 Case: $11.89

BEER

The Dictionary defines Robust as, ro·bust, adj.
1. Full of health and strength; vigorous.
2. Powerfully built; sturdy.
3. Requiring or suited to physical strength or endurance: robust labor.
4. Rough or crude; boisterous: a robust tale.
5. Marked by richness and fullness; full-bodied: a robust wine. (or beer)

All of these definitions are rather apropos for this week's beer tasting!

Maharaja Imperial IPA
Avery Brewing (Boulder, Colorado)
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, - "great" and rajan - "king". Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley - fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence.
$9.99 22oz.

Nightstalker Imperial Stout
Goose Island Brewing (Chicago, Illinois)
A heavily-hopped imperial stout, Night Stalker is a heavyweight of a beer. It delivers a formidable punch of hops and rich roasted malt notes to the nose in a silky body that's as dark as night.
$10.99 22oz.

Letter of Marque - Hop Rye Porter
Heavy Seas/Clipper City (Baltimore, Maryland)
"Winners from Clipper City's 2009 Letter of Marque Homebrew Competition worked along side the brewers at Clipper City to create this one time special release. Letter of Marque will feature a different beer every year selected from our national homebrew competition. Historically, a Letter of Marque was a document that made a Pyrate a legitimate professional. Hence, the Letter of Marque makes a home brewer a legitimate professional as well!" This year's recipe is from homebrewers Frank Butt and Neil Heinlein.
$6.99 22oz.
