It's no secret that South American wines are making a very loud noise in the world of wine. Both Argentina and Chile have really come into their own. Using varietals from all over the world and stylistically making them their own, these new world wines are showing lots of old world character.
This week we sample 4 fantastic wines from great producers. These are easily recognizable wines that will please you palate and your wallet.

2008 Viognier "Naked Pulp," Doña Paula
Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina
"Light gold-colored with an alluring perfume of melon, apricot, guava, and kiwi. Full-bodied, ripe, and round, it has good acidity, superb depth and concentration, and a lengthy finish." 91pts Wine Advocate

2008 Pinot Noir "Vision," Cono Sur
Casablanca Valley, Aconcagua, Chile
Medium ruby colored, it reveals an enticing perfume of violets, spice box, cedar, black cherry, and black raspberry. There's genuine complexity as well as excellent balance and a seamless finish.

2007 Syrah/Bonarda, Crios de Susana Balbo
Mendoza, Argentina
"A blend of Syrah (50%)-Bonarda (50%), dark ruby-colored, it sports an aromatic array of cedar, cinnamon, violets, blueberry, and plum. Medium-bodied, spicy, layered, and well-balanced." 90pts Wine Advocate

2007 Malbec, Susana Balbo
Mendoza, Argentina
Reveals an enticing perfume of coffee/mocha, baking spices, violets, black cherry, and black raspberry. Smooth-textured, layered, and ripe, it has loads of succulent fruit, structure, and a lingering, fruit-filled finish.
