WINE

All of the wines we're tasting this week-end are not only extremely good multi-taskers (as in with food or on their own) but they over-deliver for the price. Two wines, the Blaufrankisch and the Vermintino, are wonderful representations of some unfamiliar grapes that have responded extremely well to being grown in the states.  The third is a new wine from Charles Smith and the fourth is yet another Spanish gem from a lesser known growing region. It's an amazing line-up and . . . they're all new to the store.   See you at the tasting bar.

2008 Vermentino, Uvaggio
(Lodi, CA)
A touch of spritz cuts the round fullness of this fragrant white. Tart on the palate, with lemon and melon fruit that runs all the way through, leading to a clean, snappy finish.
Bottle: $14.99   Special: $13.49   Case: $12.47

2008 Blaufrankisch "Blue Franc," Shooting Star/Steele Wines
(Yakima Valley, WA)
Completely steel fermented red shows a pure but not superficially sweet intensity of juicy, fresh, bitter-edged black fruits and an invigorating alliance of salinity and subtle smokiness.
Bottle: $13.99   Special: $12.59   Case: $11.89

2007 Charles & Charles Vol. 2 (Cabernet/Syrah)
(Columbia Valley, WA)
Medium to full-bodied wine has outstanding depth of fruit, concentration, and length. Spices, cassis, black raspberries, herbs, and brambleberries make up this ripe tannin-filled beauty.
Bottle: $14.99   Special: $13.49   Case: $12.47

2007 Grenacha Xiloca, Bodegas Vinae Mureri
(Ribera del Jiloca, Spain)
A luxurious, seamless, voluptuous red that reveals an array of sweet, jammy red and black fruits, excellent purity, fine texture as well as concentration, multiple dimensions, and a finish normally found in wines costing $20-$30 a bottle.
Bottle: $15.99   Special: $14.39   Case: $13.59
